I double-checked the tracking and it’s showing it’s in Philadelphia. Is this going to cause a delay or an issue with my application?

As for delays in the processing, please note that the processing time clock begins once the application is received at the center that will process it. Published processing times do not include shipping times on the front and back end.

If you have travel plans, I recommend that you make final arrangements AFTER you receive your passport.

Answer: Hello, Brian. Standard passport service may take up to 18 weeks from the day you submitted your application to the day you receive your new passport. If you paid for expedited service, it will be 12 weeks. It has only been 5 weeks since you submitted your application.

Since you applied on June 7, your passport should arrive by the second week of October. If you requested and paid for expedited service, you can expect your passport to arrive on or before the end of August.

It takes about 6 weeks for an application to register as in-process in the online tracking system. If your application is not found when you check, just try again in several days.

Answer: A status that says 'unavailable' does not necessarily mean that the application was lost. It is possible that it has not been entered into the system yet that's why the agent you spoke to also cannot find it.

The Department of State's website says that it takes about 4 weeks for an application to appear as 'in process' in the tracking system. During this period, your application is received at the processing center, the check is cashed and the actual processing is started.

The only place that can issue a passport in your required time is a regional passport agency. Unfortunately, appointments are extremely limited and applicants in qualified life-or-death emergencies are prioritized. Your appointment date must be 72 hours before your scheduled flight. Bring a copy of your airline ticket as proof of imminent international travel.

Question: I applied at a USPS location exactly 4 weeks ago, and checks not cashed and status online is not found.

I took a photo of the USPS priority mail bill on the envelope (the bill was created by the USPS clerk, not me). The bill has the delivery address as LITERALLY "PHILADELPHIA, PA 19190"... No PO Box number and no zip code extension, or any thing other than the quoted text. Tracking status says "delivered at [...] in PHILADELPHIA, PA 19190". I am worried it may have been delivered to the wrong location since the destination address is incomplete.

Any thoughts on that?

Answer: It is very unlikely that your application was sent to the wrong address. Acceptance facilities cater to a good number of applications on a daily basis so we can expect them to know what they are doing.

This is what the Department of State's website says in verbatim:

"It may take up to 4 weeks from the day you apply until your application status is "In Process." During these 4 weeks, your application is delivered to a mail facility, your payment is processed, and your application is scanned and sent to us. If your passport status update says "Not Available," your application and supporting documents are safely on their way to us."

At this point, there is really no cause for concern. Your application is on its way.

My experience is the same as others whose applications (mine's a renewal containing my passport) are stuck in 19176. I used the PO's texting service and they advise that the 19176 post office services the 19190 PO boxes, so it's a matter of the Passport office picking up the deliveries, or so the PO says. Question: My passport renewal application was mailed on 2/22 to Philadelphia zip code 19190-0155 as per the DS-82 instructions. Somehow, it was routed to the Philadelphia zip code 19176 instead (similar to the experiences of two previous posters) and appears to be still sitting there today 3/18 with no movement reflected in USPS tracking.

I initiated a USPS "service request" on 3/4 to no avail. I also have been trying to check the status of my renewal at http://uspsg.net/status, but I keep getting the response: "Application Status: Not Found".

Your response to the two previous commenters having this problem was that the address on the form is not always the final destination and that applications are re-routed to processing centers that can best accommodate them.

This doesn't make sense to me for several reasons:

1. How would the post office know which processing center to route them to?
2. If my application was re-routed, the USPS tracking should reflect that re-routing. It doesn't show any movement from 19176.
3. In your response to commenter Albert, you stated "We do not know if 19150-0155 is housed inside a post office in 19176." It would seem to me that the passport department should know, or be able to find out, what is happening at 19176 and why packages are being held up there.

Please find out what is going on, and clear up the log jam that appears to be occurring at 19176. Also please post what is going on on your website. After all, the information contained in the passport application packages contains sensitive personal information subjecting the applicants to identity theft and worse.

I sent my passport via USPS express this Friday to correct the PO box 90955 for expedited services with waive signature and I have tracking information.

The amount I paid was provided by USPS (26.35), which was paid. I got a text the same day at 8PM saying "return to sender". Not sure why it’s getting returned?

And will I be able to use that amount to reissue?

Answer: Hello, Fritz. Private passport couriers exist to assist applicants in submitting their applications. A private courier can also help ensure that all your requirements are in order.

Since you will be using DS-11, you need to go to a local passport office to have the application form adjudicated by a passport agent. Tell the passport agent that you will be submitting through a private courier.

The agent will seal your application packet and hand it back to you. You can then have a private passport courier submit it for you. We recommend Rush My Passport expedited passport service.

Going through a private courier will cost you a little more on top of the government fees but this should take away the worry of the application and documents getting lost and of you having to start over.

My concern is that I mailed the package to a PO Box and the zip code I sent it to was 191950-0155 and the Post Office that received the package has a zip code of 19176. Zip codes don't match. Would a PO Box with zip code 19150-0155 be housed inside the Post Office with zip code 19176?

Question: I sent all my paper work to Irving, TX instead of Philadelphia, PA for Expedited Services and didn't write "Expedited"on the outside as I just read to do. Will this get re-routed to the proper place and will it get delayed without having the "Expedited" on it?

Question: I have called the passport processing center operators and they cannot say why the gross delay. They say its on their side and not mine. Yes they fail to call or email me as requested over and over, I was completely ripped off of my money. This is a violation of providing non-resident state nationals the ability to travel without lawfully being violated by this fraud.

Answer: Writing "expedite" on the envelope is a recommendation and not a requirement. If you sent it to the address for expedited service, the passport should be issued and delivered to you in 2-3 weeks.
10-Year China visa in old passport

Question: I overnighted Via UPS, my Passport Renewal Application and I see on the tracking this was routed to 500 White Clay Center Drive in Newark DE? Answer: This seems to be a common procedure by UPS. Based on comments and e-mails from other visitors, UPS will reroute your application to the correct address. It may take a few days to arrive and be entered into the system. You can check the status online here.

Question: The state dot gov website lists the Philadelphia address, but the actual DS-82 form says Irving ONLY for specific states (New York, California, Texas, etc), and Philadelphia for all other states and Canada.

I'm in New York, but I couldn't find any information about the Irving processing center. Does anyone have any insight on this?

Question: I have a limited validity passport issued by the American Embassy in Sweden. I already paid $135 dollars. They told me when I return to the USA to fill out the form DS-5504 and send it with the letter given by the Embassy, 2 photos, copy of my driver's license and my US citizenship document. Question: My wife sent her passport in for renewal on Feb. 16 2016. Post office tracking says it was delivered to P.O. Box 90155 on Feb 19, 2016. According to your representatives, it is not in the system yet. I have tried contacting the post office and no one answers. Is there a way to find out what is going on?

Only advice we have gotten is to declare it lost and resubmit. I'm looking for another course of action.

Answer: It is impossible to determine if your passport will be issued before the application arrives. If you requested expedited service, the commitment is to process the application within 8 business days after it arrives at the agency.

Once the application has been rerouted to the processing center and arrives at the proper location, it takes 5-7 days to be entered into the system. After this is done, you can check the status of your application online.

If you did not request expedited service, we recommend you do so by calling 1-877-487-2778between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday, except Federal holidays. You might also want to request overnight delivery of your new passport. Expedited service is $60 and overnight delivery is $15.45.

We recommend you wait to see if your passport arrives by Aug 11 before visiting a regional passport agency. If you visit the agency on Aug 12 as a walk-in, arrive well before it opens. Where is my passport renewal?

Question: I sent my passport to PO Box 90155 for expedited service on Jan 22, 2015. It was delivered on Jan 23 and signed by K. Kahraman.

Today is the 2nd of February and I have not received my passport back even thoush I sent a prepaid expedited envelope. I just checked and the tracking number has not been activated.

Answer: First of all, the correct PO Box for expedited service is 90955 so it probably took a little extra time to get to the right PO Box.

Then, it takes 7-10 days after applying for status of your application to be available online.

Finally, expedited service by mail is estimated to take up to 3 weeks.

Therefore, your application status should be available within the next day or two and your application should be processed and your new passport delivered no later than February 16 as long as the application, documents and payments are accepted.
