Where is my renewed passport?

by Judith
(Hendersonville, NC)

Question: My husband and I mailed both of our passports together for renewal to PO Box 90155 in Philadelphia. Our separate checks were cashed on February 8.

My husband's new passport arrived via Priority mail on February 22 postmarked Portsmouth NH. His old passport arrived the same day via regular mail also from Portsmouth, but a different street address.

If it was sent, please track it as it still hasn't arrived with today's (February 24) mail. Thank you.

Answer: Passport applications sent together do not remain together at the processing center. Since estimated time for routine processing is 4-6 weeks, the applications can be completed and passport mailed out on different days.

Your renewed passport should arrive within the next few days. You can check the status of the application by clicking here. If it does not arrive soon, contact the National Passport Information Center at 1-877-487-2778.

No information on passport renewal
by: Anonymous

Question: I mailed my passport renewal 7/15/23. There is no information available when I check online. My check was cashed shortly after I mailed it.

Answer: Please contact the NPIC at 1-877-487-2778 regarding your application.

My passport was approved but I have not received it.
by: Tonya

Question: Please let me know why I have not received my passport. It should have arrived around 4/22/23. I have received the documents I sent to have my name changed on the existing passport. I have a locator number. Please HELP!

Answer: You need to submitForm DS-86 Statement of Non-Receipt of U.S. Passport so you can get a new one re-issued. Please contact the NPIC at 1-877-487-2778 to find out which regional center processed your passport. You need to send the form to that address.

Too long wait with no info
by: Anonymous

Question: I sent my passport and the check on March, the check was cashed on March 16th but there is no info available about the status of my passport application online and when I call the numbers that are on the page, there is only an answering machine asking me to go online. What should I do I need to travel in 2 weeks! Please help.

Answer: Unfortunately, there is nothing private entities like us can do to help applications along once they are submitted. You need to contact the NPIC at 1-877-487-2778 and inform them of your travel date so they can notify the processing center and request that your passport be issued in time.

Not Available but tracking shows documents delivered
by: Tisha

Question: I am recently married and sent in my original passport along with the necessary documents to process my name change and get a new passport. I mailed the documents and money order via priority mail and I received tracking. The tracking shows that the package was delivered on March 10th of this year. I purchased the money order through the post office and it shows the money order was cashed.

Yet when I call the toll-free number to check on my passport as I had travel planned, they have no record of receiving it. This is a huge issue as I have proof that it was delivered and proof the money order was cashed. I am needing this to be looked into. I also need to know how can I contact someone at the processing center in Irving. Thank you.

Answer: Customer service representatives only have access to the same information that is available at the online status checking system. If it says unavailable online, they cannot tell you anything more than that. A "not available" status means your application is still in transit to a passport agency or center. Please contact the NPIC at 1-877-487-2778 for more information.

In Process changed to Not Available
by: Anonymous

Question: My daughter's passport had been in process for 12 weeks, I have called them and spoken with a supervisor. Now it says "Not available". What is the reason and what does it mean?

Answer: It could simply be a glitch in the system or some documents may be required for the application to proceed. Please contact the NPIC again or wait for them to contact you asking for additional supporting documents.

Still no update after months
by: Untrusting

Question: It has been months since I sent in my application to replace an expired passport. The status continues to say processing. Your phone support person said that there is nothing I can do except wait until 2 weeks before any travel - but that is insane - after 4 months, it would be helpful to know if you lost my application packet and I have to start again.

Waiting until just before I travel risks not being able to get a passport at all and having to cancel any trip. Please advise.

Answer: We are not connected to the U.S. Department of State so we do not have access to the information you require. The reason why we recommend using traceable mail when sending your application is so you can track it and ensure that it has reached the processing center.

We can only explain why you were advised to wait until two weeks before your travel date.

U.S. passport agencies only process applications from individuals who need to travel urgently. In order to secure an appointment at an agency, you need to wait until your travel plans become "urgent" and that means 2 weeks out. Passport agencies can issue your passport within 72 hours or less of your appointment.

Nobody picking up at PO Box
by: A.Reyes

Question: I sent my renewal application via USPS and tracking says it was delivered to PO box already. Why no one is picking it up? Been 4 business days and still there while my son’s new passport application has been picked up and "in-process" status already.

Answer: Your application will be duly processed. Please contact the NPIC at 1-877-487-2778 for more information.

Passport status pending
by: Anonymous

Question: We renewed my son's passport on June 28th and had it expedited. His passport never came and when you look up the status online it says pending. We paid to have the passport expedited. We have applied to get a refund for the expedited fee and of yet to be reimbursed. We have tried calling to find out who we could talk to regarding the status of the passport and no one including the manager seems to be of any help. Can you please suggest what I should do to try and find out where my son's passport is? Thank you for your help.

Answer: Some people have resolved issues with their applications through their local congressmen. You may go that route as well.

Rejected photo
by: Aubrey

Question: My fiance's photo was rejected after we sent it in for renewal. We immediately sent a new photo as instructed. My question is will this delay the process further? Is there any way to know for sure that the agency has received the new photo? (In hindsight I should have sent it with tracking but just used the envelope provided to send a new photo).

Answer: Yes, there will likely be a delay in the processing because of the rejected photo. If you did not send the photo via traceable mail, you cannot confirm whether or not it has been received. You may contact the NPIC at 1-877-487-2778 for more information.

Check cashed
by: Anonymous

Question: I applied for passport renewal, I checked USPS tracking and it showed that it was received, also my bank shows that the check was cashed almost a month ago. I’m starting to worry because I check the website for status and all I get is this " Application Status: Not Available".

Answer: Once a check is cashed, it means that the application has reached an intake facility. The status should switch to "in process" once it enters the review phase at one of the processing centers.

Really concerned
by: Anonymous

Question: Hi. I sent my passport on June 3 on time because I have international travel in September. I check every day and the status is never available. I'm really concerned because it doesn't even appear as an application received.

Answer: If your application was sent via traceable mail, you should be able to check whether or not the application has already reached the processing center. It usually does not take more than a month for an application to be in process but it is also possible that your application is still on its way.

Please contact the NPIC at 1-877-487-2778 for more information.

Passport Status
by: Anonymous

Question: I mailed my renewal passport application more than 2 weeks ago via USPS Express Mail. The tracking number shows it arrived but my Application Status is Unavailable. Please help.

Answer: According to the Department of State's website, it can take about two weeks after you apply before you get a status update on your application. This time is just an approximation. It is not uncommon for an update to be posted 4 weeks after you sent the application in.

We recommend that you check again in a few days. The status should change to "In Process" soon.

Timeline
by: Paula S.

Question: I applied for an expedited passport renewal. I received & responded to a request for additional information. Will this now take an additional 5-7 weeks?

Answer: It will not. Processing should resume as soon as the document is received but you expect some delays.

Urgent question: Expedited passport status
by: Anonymous

Question: My trip to Canada is on 6/25. Can someone please help me my expedite passport application?

Current status show: in Process
locator: 534799826

Answer: Private companies like us cannot assist with applications that have already been submitted. Please contact the NPIC at 1-877-487-2778 to schedule an appointment for June 24 to possibly get your passport issued before your flight on the 25th.

Passport renewal approved, but not mailed
by: Connor

Question: Hi - my passport renewal was approved. I paid for expedited and the status update online says I should receive my passport on 06/05 (12 days ago). I have still not received my passport and I have international travel in 2 weeks. I called the phone line and there are zero appointments available in the next 2 weeks. They were also unable to help me with tracking my passport. Can I get some help?

Answer: Delivery may just be delayed. Please contact the NPIC at 1-877-487-2778 for assistance with tracking.

Renewal
by: Hailey

Question: The status of my renewal shows I should have received my passport 5/11. That's over a month ago and still no passport. I've tried contacting the number and email. I'm not getting any help.

Answer: Hi, Hailey. It is possible that delivery is delayed or the passport was lost while in transit. You need to submit Form DS-86 Statement of Non-Receipt of U.S. Passport in order to get a new one reissued to you. You need to do this within 90 days of the supposed issue date in order to avoid paying the fees again.

1 minor not available, 2 in process. Applied at the same time.
by: Sofia

Question: Husband and I went to the passport office on 4/19 to apply for our 3 children. On 5/2 application status for the girls (first-time applicants) was in process. My 5-year-old son's status (2nd-time applicant) was not available. Today (5/23) the status of his application remains the same.

We sent in his not yet expired passport along with a new application (DS-11 as required by the passport bureau for minors) and I’m worried about why his application status isn’t available if they were all sent at the same time.

Answer: Applications are processed separately even when they are sent at the same time. A 'not available' status means the application has not yet entered the review phase. It should change to 'in process' soon.

If there is an issue with your son's application, you should receive a letter from the Department of State with details regarding the problem and instructions on how to correct it.

Question: I renewed my passport in January. On 2-2-22 it said it was in Processing. It's now 12 weeks later and I have phoned everyone and no one has any answers for me. I paid for expedited service and I sent my old one in with 10 yrs of Stamps.

My Grandchildren would like them. I am a woman of age and I earn by exporting. So what now I cant earn and all the events are passing me by. Someone please help.

Answer: We do not have access to the information you require since we are a private company. Please contact the NPIC at 1-877-487-2778 for assistance.

Who can I call to ask if my renewal documents made it?
by: Anonymous

Question: I sent my passport in for renewal with all my supporting documents and check (with expedited costs!) to the processing center on April 6th. My status still reads Not Available and my check hasn't even been cashed yet.

I am worried about if it has even gotten there - with all the personal info in those documents - I worry even more!

When I call the number listed, none of the options fit my scenario, I want to talk to someone about it - Who do I call?

Answer: The National Passport Information Center can be contacted by phone and email.

Phone number: 1-877-487-2778
Email: NPIC@state.gov

There is no other phone number you can call to get information regarding your passport application.

PAYMENT PROCESSED THREE WEEKS AGO
by: Anonymous

Question: I sent out an application for expedited renewal three weeks ago and sent it out on April 7th. The USPS tracking shows that it arrived at the facility on 04/08.

The check was processed on April 13th.

My status online today 04/28th still says "Not Available" How can they process the check when no progress has been made? Please advise on the following steps.

Answer: When your payment is processed, your application has reached the intake facility. The status will change to "In Process" when the application enters into review at the agency or processing center. Based on what you described, your application is on the right track. There are no steps to undertake at this point.

It has been 10 weeks and have not received Passport
by: Anonymous

Question: I submitted my passport 10 weeks ago and still have not received it. The application status states "not available" and I will need it for work quite soon. I have called with no support as to the current status.

Answer: Routine service takes 8 to 11 weeks excluding the time it takes for the passport to arrive at the processing center and at your doorstep when processing is completed. The 'not available' status may just be a glitch in the system.

Status update after payment
by: Anonymous

Question: My payment has been processed, but the status hasn't been updated. Is that normal?

Answer: Yes, it is normal. Your status will change to 'In Process' when your application is in review.

Schedule for Redelivery
by: Anonymous

Question: What does it mean when the tracking service (USPS) gives you a reminder to reschedule redelivery of my passport? Does that mean it hasn't reached the distribution center and it's going to be returned to my address?

Answer: We do not have sufficient information regarding USPS codes. Please contact them to find out the status of your mail.

My passport is over due
by: Donald White

Question: I checked online and it says I should arrive on 02/02 but it still has not come.

Answer: The dates on the status page are just approximations. Mailing times vary across the country so your passport's delivery is likely just taking longer than projected. You may contact the NPIC at 1-877-487-2778 for assistance in tracking it down.

Social Wrong
by: Walter Adamski

Question: Received a letter stating my Social was wrong. I immediately wrote it in the spot provided and sent it out the next day. Two weeks later still missing in action been 12 weeks and still no update on the website. My cruise is in 8 weeks and I'm starting to get nervous that this will not come in time. Any suggestions?

Answer: Please contact the NPIC at 1-877-487-2778.

Passport arrived 8 months to the day
by: Anonymous

Finally, my passport just arrived 8 months to the day they sent an e-mail that they had started processing it. I had applied for it much earlier. I know it may not seem like it but there is hope in sight. Patience is the key. Bon voyage all.

by: Anonymous

Question: My renewed passport and passport card do not show as active, in fact, they do not show up at all. I could not use either one at the airport or the DMV.

Passport in Progress Forever
by: Anonymous

Question: I called the number that you suggested and spoke to a supervisor who had no more information than already provided. It seems we are at their mercy. It's been 7 months since the only communication by e-mail that it was being processed. They can not expedite it either. I wish I had known about your service beforehand.

Answer: We're sorry to learn about your experience. Some people have found resolution by involving their congressmen/senator's offices. Maybe you can try that route?

Don't have passport yet
by: P

Question: I checked my passport status it says that I should receive my passport on 1-2-2022 but I didn’t have it yet.

Answer: The dates provided are just estimates since mailing times vary across the country. Your passport should be in the mail soon.

Expedited passport tracking unavailable
by: Anonymous

Question: I sent in my passport with expedited service requested and saw that it arrived at the processing center via USPS tracking 3 days ago (12/26/2021) but the application status says unavailable. How long does it take for the application status to show as "in progress" once it's received at the processing center?

Answer: Based on the Department of State's website, it takes about 2 weeks after submission for a status update to become available. Since it has only been 3 days, I suggest you check again in a couple of weeks.

Passport Renewal delay more than 6 months
by: Anonymous

Question: I received an e-mail confirmation that my passport renewal was being processed as of June 4, 2021. It's been over 6 months and I can get no further information on it. I called and tried to get it expedited but was told that service was no longer available to me. Recent news said wait times have come down but I'm not seeing it. Who can we contact to find out more information since it seems the number provided is no longer handling them as of July.

Answer: Please contact the NPIC at 1-877-487-2778 and ask to speak to a supervisor.

Thank you.

Answer: Please call the NPIC at 1-877-487-2778.

Passport Renewal - Applied in Apr 2021 : Status - In-progress
by: Anonymous

Question: Hi, I applied for passport renewal for my son in April 2021 and the application was received in May 2021, but still status shows as "in-progress" on the website. It's been more than 25 weeks now. When I called the service center to expedite the application, they said I'm not eligible and asked me to keep looking for the status change online.

We couldn't plan our international travel, because only after receiving the renewed passport, we should be able to apply Visa for my son. Kindly help with the procedure to expedite the process and get my son's passport renewed.

Thanks.

Answer: Once an application is submitted, there is nothing a private entity like us or our partner couriers can do to intervene. You have to call the NPIC to try and switch to expedited service.

Also, you mentioned you submitted a "renewal" for your son. If your son is a minor, you should have submitted a new application (DS-11) instead of a renewal (DS-82). This may be the problem and you need to clarify with passport services.

Passport renewal
by: FC Irizarry

Question: I sent my passport renewal to the States and the check was collected on Sept 9 but I have not received any information.

Answer: Check Your Application Status

If you sent your application through traceable mail, you can track your parcel to verify if it has reached the processing center.

I have not received my kids' passport since feb/2020
by: NATY

Question: I applied for my kids' passports in February last year (more than a year ago)and I have not received anything.

I checked online status a million times and it says not available. I also have called 18774782278 number a couple of times and they just keep saying wait for the system, covid is making the process slow. I sent everything: the application, documentation, and payment. I just don't understand why can nobody give me an answer. Today is 11/10. I don't know what else to do! I need my children's passports.

Answer: Hi, Naty. We are not a government agency so we do not have access to the information you need. We can only speculate as to what happened to your application.

Were you able to confirm through tracking that the application arrived at the processing center? If the answer is no, it is possible that the application was lost while in transit.

If you were able to confirm that the application reached the processing center, it is possible that it was processed, a passport was issued and sent your way but was lost while in transit. It is also possible that passport services required more documents but you were not able to submit them and the processing is stalled.

Please call the NPIC at 1-877-487-2778 again. Asking to speak to a supervisor may get your better answers.

Lost Application
by: Anonymous

Question: I mailed my passport renewal and it was delivered over a month ago and I wrote expedite on the envelope with all fees. Yet my check has not been cashed.

You keep posting the number 1-877-487-2778 but when you call they can’t help with anything. They advise me to reply, to get a new citizenship certificate that will cost $600 plus 8 months waiting, you can’t pretend that the application is lost when tracking shows it was delivered to you.

Answer: We are not a government agency nor connected to any government office so we do not have access to the information you require.

If the tracking says it was delivered to the processing center, it is safe to assume that the application was not lost. The check not being cashed means it has not yet reached the intake facility. Your status should change to In Process soon.

Is my application lost?
by: Anonymous

Question: I mailed in my application with my old damaged passport, supporting documents, and a check on July 3. Expedited service was paid for also.

At this point, my application status is still "Not Available" and my check has not cleared my account. My wife submitted her application a week or so after me and received her passport and supporting documents several weeks ago. At what point do I assume the application, my birth certificate, etc. was just lost? I have plans to travel in 3 months.

Answer: Please contact the NPIC at 1-877-487-2778 regarding your concern.

6 Months and Waiting for Passport.
by: Anonymous

Question: I sent my passport for renewal in April, received by the passport office on 4/14/21. It has been 6 months since I sent it in, but I haven't received it yet. Is my passport lost? I called in several times, but the agents don't know the status or can tell anything about it. One agent said the 14-18 weeks is just an estimate. Again, it has been 6 months since I sent in for renewal.

Answer: It is possible that the passport was lost while in transit. If this is the case, you may file for non-receipt within 90 days of the passport's issue date.

To find out the issue date, you need to contact the NPIC at 1-877-487-2778. You also need to ask which agency issued your passport. Once you have the information required and it has been 90 days or less since the issue date, you may file Form DS-86 Statement of Non-Receipt of U.S. Passport and get a new passport reissued at no cost to you.

Received on 7/14/2021 in process
by: Anonymous

Question: It is officially 14 weeks per website and I still do not have my passport. I call NPIC and they say "some applications are taking longer" and that is it. I am at a loss. And cannot get any more information. I spoke with a supervisor and was told "we cannot tell you anything or check on it" Both agents I spoke with tried to upsell me to expedited service. I am waiting for the timeframe listed on the website and still do not have the passport WHILE upselling me to expedited service because I do not have a passport.

Answer: At the time you submitted your application, standard service is at 18 weeks. The 14-week turnaround time is effective October 8.

Status is still in process
by: Anonymous

Question: Hi. I sent my passport documents on 6/2021. It's been over 14 weeks and my status still says "in process". We applied for expedited service and still have received my passport or a letter or email stating that something was wrong with the application. When will I see my passport?

Answer: Please contact the NPIC at 1-877-487-2778 to find out what is happening with your application.

16 Weeks and nothing
by: Anonymous

Question: I applied for my passport to have my name changed because I am married. So I sent my old one in along with my application on July 3rd. My kids have received theirs and my husband has received him but it is over 16 weeks and I have not received a letter, no status is available online, and no passport. What can I do?? And the phone lines will not give me any information. My tracking number says it was received 2 days after I submitted it.

Answer: The only people who can provide any status update is the Department of State. You need to contact the NPIC at 1-877-487-2778. If speaking to a frontline agent does not get you the answers you need, please ask to speak to a supervisor.

Also, note that at the time you applied, regular service turnaround time was at 18 weeks. Since it has only been 16 weeks, it is possible that your passport is still in process but status has not been updated.

When does the 12 week expedited processing start?
by: Danni

Question: I mailed my passport name change application on 7/16 and my tracking number stated it was delivered 7/22. However, when I check the status of my passport it states they received it 9/16.

Does the 12-week time start from 7/22 or 9/16? I did pay for expedited processing and shipping back to me. If it is 12 weeks after 9/16 I will not get my passport in time for our trip after thanksgiving.

Answer: The 12-week turnaround time covers both processing and mailing on the front and back end. If there was no issue with your documents, your passport should be issued soon, if it's not already on the way.

Passport renewal taking 8 months?
by: Anonymous

Question: Sent my passport renewal in late January. Passport office contacted me in April by mail stating I didn’t send my latest (newest) old expired passport, & returned the expired passport they had received. So I immediately sent the correct one in with the form they asked for accompanying it.

It was mailed in mid-April. Checked online - in Aug. and status said In Process. Just checked again online on Oct. 3rd and the status says Not Available. When I called Customer Service they offered no help at all saying they had no way to check status. What should I do??? It’s been more than enough time.

Answer: Please contact the NPIC again and ask to speak to a supervisor who may have access to more information than a frontline agent.

Status says “Shipped”
by: Anonymous

Question: A bit of back story. I mailed my old passport through a third-party "expedited" service but it was lost between them and the post office. I ended up canceling payment on it and reporting it lost and filled out a new application with my new pictures and sent in my birth certificate. Well, the post office "found" it and mailed it in along with my new passport application. They denied my old one but the new one has a status of "shipped". What does that mean??? Thanks for your help.

Answer: Shipped means your new passport is on its way to you. Please contact the NPIC at 1-877-487-2778 for more information.

My partner sent in his passport renewal last October but still hasn't received it.
by: Anonymous

Question: He sent in his old one for renewal in late October 2020 and the last update was that it wasn't ready at the end of December 2020. It has almost been a year and we still don't have it or any updates on it. Is it really taking that long or is it lost?

Answer: It should not take a year to process a passport. Please contact the NPIC at 1-877-487-2778 regarding your application.

No status available after months
by: Anonymous

Question: My wife submitted her passport to have her last name changed earlier this year for a trip we have coming up in Feb next year.

The check was cashed over 4 months ago, but stats still shows not available. I submitted for a complete renewal 2 months ago and already have approved status. Is there any reason why a simple mail submitted name change should be taking so much longer than a renewal of a passport more than 10 years expired?

Answer: It is possible that more documents are required for the name change. Please check your mail and your wife's inbox for any communication from passport services.

Husband's renewed passport came 4 weeks ago, Why is mine so delayed?
by: Sharon

Question: Our renewal forms, separate checks, and expired passports were mailed in the same big envelope from our local post office - under the guidance of a postal staff worker. My husband's arrived 4 weeks ago. A few days later his expired passport arrived. A month later and I still have not received mine.

Answer: Hello, Sharon. Applications sent together are not necessarily processed at the same time. It is also possible that yours was already sent as well but delivery is delayed.

Check Your Application Status

Is my passport being processed?
by: Bonnie Richards

Question: I sent my passport renewal application to Philadelphia 6/18. It was delivered there by 6/21. My check was cashed on 7/20. I haven't received my new passport, nor my old passport, nor have I had any communication that it is in the process.

Answer: Hi, Bonnie. You may check the status of your application online.

Check Your Application Status

Renewed passport status
by: Anonymous

Question: We sent my husband's passport renewal on 7/19 for expedited processing. The last time I checked it showed received and processing expedited. I now checked today 9/2 and it says status is not available. Any insight as to what this could mean? We are set to travel in October.

Answer: We do not have access to the government's data so we cannot tell you for certain why the status is unavailable. It may just be a glitch in the tracking system.

Expedited service takes about 12 weeks, provided there are no delays in the mailing. Based on your submission date, you should expect your husband's passport to arrive around the second week of October.

Passport approved August 27
by: Anonymous

Question: Our kid's passport was approved August 27. How long before we will receive it in the mail? We have a trip coming in 3 weeks. Do I have to call to expedite the mail? If yes, what is the number to call?

Thank you!

Answer: Standard processing takes 12 weeks, excluding mailing on the front and back end. It is very unlikely that you will get your child's passport in time for your trip even if you request for expedited service which can take up to 6 weeks plus shipping.

Your only means left to possibly get your child's passport in time is to schedule an appointment at a regional agency. In order to be accommodated, you will have to call days before your trip for an appointment. Please call 1-877-487-2778.

Where to get a "tracking" number for a mailed renewed passport
by: Anonymous

Question: I renewed my passport and was "approved" and the status said I should receive the passport on/about June 12, 2021. I did receive my old passport (with the hole punched in the bottom) but have not received my new passport (It's August 21, 2021). I have called the phone numbers several times & gave up after holding for over an hour each time.

When reaching out to the NPIC they tell me to fill out a DS-86 which requires me to show what steps I've taken to locate the package. Really? I cannot get the mailing tracking number because I cannot reach a person to answer the phone! I've contacted the local post office which tells me I need to contact passport services.

I'm assuming my passport was mailed and it is lost in the mail, but I cannot reasonably obtain any information from the passport office in order to track it! I originally applied in late April to renew my passport, which is plenty of time for the trip I was taking at the end of October. Any idea on how to find my passport or to be able to report it lost in the mail within the 90 days required?

Answer: You will need three pieces of information from passport services in order to file Form DS-86.

1. The date the passport was issued
2. The address of the agency that issues it
3. The tracking number for the original passport mailing

The only people who can provide you with this information are those working for Passport Services. Please call them again at 1-877-487-2778. If an agent cannot give you the information you require, ask to speak to a supervisor.

13 weeks & check was cashed but application still says "Not Available"
by: Anonymous

Question: I submitted my paperwork and everything over 13 weeks ago. I show my check has been cashed, but my application still says "Not available". Is this normal? Is there something wrong with my application? It is good news my check has been cashed? What do I do?

Answer: It is not normal but also not unheard of. If there is an issue with your application, you would have already received a letter or an email from passport services. You may contact the NPIC at 1-877-487-2778 for clarification.

35 weeks and waiting
by: Anonymous

Question: I have applied since November 22, 2020. And was requested additional info of which was received 3/01/2021. Everything is original that I have sent. I requested expedited service and nothing has been received. I cannot reach anyone after 6 months of calling as it either rings and tells me 2 hr wait then. It goes into busy signal and disconnects call. Now for last 2 months it is only busy. Now online it states application status: not available after a week. It was previously in progress. I have been waiting now for approximately 35 weeks. Please help me as I paid for expedited and sent original paperwork as requested. 35 weeks is ridiculous with no help. I keep emailing and keep calling but busy busy busy. Emailing doesn’t help and I’ve asked for supervisor to check and contact me.

Answer: We are not a government agency so we do not have access to data regarding individual applications. We cannot tell you why your application has not been completed after 35 weeks.

You may file a formal complaint at the State Department's website. You may be able to get answers this way.

Where is my passport?
by: Anonymous

Question: My check was cashed on March 22, however, I have yet to receive anything. The online system says "in process", but it has been way over 18 weeks. How do I make sure this is processed soon in order to travel?

Answer: Please contact the NPIC at 1-877-487-2778 to clarify why your application has taken this long to process. Ask to speak to a supervisor.

If you are traveling in two weeks or less, you can also schedule an appointment so you can followup at a regional agency.

No Jamaica for us
by: Anonymous

Question: We sent in our passport renewal docs with old passports in January 2020 bc we had a trip booked to Jamaica in July. We received our old passports with our new pictures on them. So we thought "we’ll I guess that’s how they are doing it now.. just updated our barcode or something". So we go to the airport to check into our flight to Jamaica. Nope. Invalid passports. There was a hole punched in the barcode. On the website, it says we are "approved" and should have received our passports on March 3rd, 2021. Well, that obviously didn’t happen. So what happened? And where are our passports?

Answer: This is the first time we've heard of old passports getting photos replaced with new ones. Please contact the NPIC at 1-877-487-2778 to find out what happened.

how to change to expedited service
by: Mike

Question: Since the phone lines are constantly busy is there any other way to get my passport changed to expedited besides trying to make a phone call to the provided phone number?

Answer: Hi, Mike. In order to switch to expedited service, you need to pay using your credit card over the phone. Online payments are not offered at this time so you really need to call and speak to a live agent.

No passport or update
by: Tierra

Question: I applied for my passport 04/16. They processed the fees out of my account. I have no update on my passport nor my birth certificate back. It has been 13 weeks.

When I applied we were informed 12 weeks for a standard time frame. The 18 weeks update did not start until mid-June. I have been calling and emailing with no response. I spoke with Matthew after a 3-hour hold who told me he can not provide any information besides what is online which is nothing.

He told me to reapply and I asked him how when you guys have my birth certificate and I already applied. He said he doesn’t know. I mean how much longer is the wait?

I was informed 12 weeks not 18. If we can’t help the 18 weeks then why does my process just states under review and it has been 13 weeks? You guys said the new process is 12 weeks to process and 6 weeks mailing. Mines show is still under review! What is going on?

Answer: Hi, Tierra. The processing time is still the name -- 10 to 12 weeks. However, mailing delays have severely affected turnaround times that's why it now takes up to 18 weeks from application submission to receipt of the passport.

We are not a government agency so we cannot give you a definite answer as to what is going on with your application and how much longer it will take. It is possible that additional documents are required and passport services has sent you a letter requesting said documents. You may want to check your mail to see if you missed opening such letter.

Agents do not have access to more information than what is available to you online. If you want to speak to someone regarding your application, please call 1-877-487-2778 and ask to speak to a supervisor.

What's the problem
by: Tammy

Question: I paid to have my husband and my renewed passports expedited. Mine was received on June 29. My husband has no information. Now mine has no info available. I went to the post office. The postmaster made sure everything was correct. He packaged it and mailed it off. Where are our renewed passports?

Answer: Hi, Tammy. Please contact the NPIC at 1-877-487-2778 to find out what is going on with your applications.

Passport status
by: Anonymous

Question: Hello, my passport status was in process and now the status says not available can someone please explain to me what that means?

Answer: It may have just been a glitch in the system. It is also possible that your application is missing some documents that's why it switched from in process to not available. Please contact the NPIC at 1-877-487-2778 for more information.

Renewal
by: Anonymous

Question: My husband applied for a renewal. On July 5, it showed in process. On July 8 shows not available. What does this mean? It's been 5 weeks with expediting payments.

Answer: It may have been a glitch in the system. We recommend that you check again later.

It is also possible that the processing is on hold because of missing documents. Check your mail and email for any communication from the Department of State.

Passport delay
by: Anonymous

Question: My husband has applied for his passport renewal on May 13th. Whenever we check online it says it’s in process and paid extra for expedited which was between 4-6 weeks but it’s already been over 6 weeks.

I applied way after he did and mine was a first-time application. I got it in 3 weeks. We are really in a hurry for we are traveling back. It’s been 5 years since I have seen my family I am so stressed and worried.

Can somebody please please tell me how much longer the processing will take? Nobody is answering our emails or phone calls. We have called them literally 20 times only 2 times we have been answered and held on the phone for 6 to 7 hours!

I am really going crazy because we planned to leave around Jun 20th and today is July 7th we still can’t leave and I can’t leave either because I don’t know if it’s gonna be worth it if I leave and then it will come back in couple days after I arrive or will it take too long? Like 3 more weeks?

Answer: We are a private company so we cannot provide you with the information you require. Only the people at passport services can answer your question. Please call them at 1-877-487-2778. They are open Mondays through Fridays from 8AM to 10PM. Asking to speak to a supervisor may get you better service and answers.

Not available status
by: Anonymous

Just to give some updates to those who are still waiting for status updates.
We applied on 5/10 expedited.
On 6/23 we finally had status in process. I called the same day at exactly 8 am, waiting in line for about 1 hour. I paid for 1-2 day shipping.
6/30 status updated to approved and shipped same day.
We received the passport on 7/1. 7 weeks in total!
We were very stressed cause we have a trip next week.
Good luck to everyone. Call only early mornings.

Where is my daughter's passport?
by: Anonymous

Question: I submitted a passport application for both my daughter and husband at the end of April and paid $35 extra dollars for my daughter's passport to come early. My husband's passport came before hers.

When we try to see when her passport is coming, it says that the information is unavailable, even though it is way past six weeks. I need it to travel out of the country, and we are going on 07/17. As of today, (07/06) it still hasn't arrived.

Can she travel with her expired passport?

Answer: Your daughter cannot travel with an expired passport. Please contact the NPIC at 1-877-487-2778 to find out if there is an issue causing the delay in the processing of your child's passport.

Application status not available for application submitted end of March
by: Anonymous

Question: We submitted a passport application for our child at the end of March 2021. Today (6/30), the Application status still appears as Not Available even though it's way past the 6 weeks it may take to start processing passports. What is going on?

Answer: We do not have access to information regarding individual applications. It is possible that you were sent a letter saying you need to submit additional documents hence the significant delay in the processing. If this is the case, the application is still pending and waiting for you to send the documents.

Please contact the National Passport Information Center at 1-877-487-2778 to get a more definitive answer. Ask to speak to a supervisor since agents only have access to the same information that is available online. The NPIC contact center is open Mondays through Fridays from 8AM to 10PM but they are receiving a very high call volume. You may have to try several times before you can get through the queue.

by: Anonymous

Passport renewal stuck in processing for 6 months!?
by: K. Williams

Question: Hi,
I have applied to have my passport renewal back in December of 2020, but it is now at the end of June and I still haven’t received it back yet.

I am obviously worried something is wrong at this point because the longest period stated is within 10-12 weeks but it’s now passing 6 months while still in processing.

I have been desperately looking for solutions to solve this issue, but I seem to be at a dead end. It appears all passport issues and inquiries are channeled through the single passport information hotline but even though I try to call daily, I only get a busy signal. And even when I was able to connect to someone on the hotline a couple of months ago the only thing they could tell me is that my passport was still in processing.

I have already checked my email for any replies and haven’t seen any letters from the department. If I am missing anything or if there were any issues with my renewal application, there nothing I know to do or anyone I can contact to resolve this problem. It almost feels like my voice is being silenced and doomed to never find a resolution. So, it's why I’m here today after already trying everything I know. Please! I hope someone can help me resolve this issue as soon as possible. Thanks.

Answer: Based on what you described, you have already done everything to find out what is going on and to possibly resolve the issue.

As a private company, we do not have access to passport services' data and therefore cannot tell you any more than what you have found out.

What you can do now is file a formal complaint at the State Department's website. Some customers have gotten better answers and/or resolution after doing so.

Medical Urgency
by: Anonymous

Question: Hello - I sent in an expedited renewal on May 22, listing a travel date of June 25, and they've been processing for 4 weeks (my son needs to come with me, and he's renewed and is waiting as well).

I know that's only 5 weeks, but I have a dental emergency and every day I wait is torture and I can't work properly. There are NO appointments available in any Eastern regional passport agency, and I've been calling the listed number all day, every day, and I only get a busy signal, not even a hold (I would hold for 24 hours if it would help to get a 72-hour appt anywhere). I'm desperate. What can I do? Thank you.

Answer: The only way to get an appointment for urgent non-life-or-death emergency travel is through the online appointment system or by calling 1-877-487-2778. Note, however, that calling and reaching a live person does not guarantee an appointment. Customer service agents do not have access to an alternate reservation system so what you see online is what they will also see.

Status not yet available after 4 weeks
by: Anonymous

Question: Hello. I sent in my passport for renewal on April 16 and the status still says not yet available. Is that a cause for concern? Additionally, I was wondering if I could request the expedited renewal even though I already sent the application in for the standard.

Answer: Hi! According to the State Department's latest update, it takes about 6 weeks for an application to register as 'in process' in the tracking system. Your application not appearing in the system should not be cause for concern at this time.

You may contact passport services at 1-877-487-2778 to request and pay for expedited service. Customer service representatives are available Mondays through Fridays from 8AM to 10PM Eastern time.

Sent for passport renewal May 3rd expedited
by: Eric F.

Question: Hello, I have sent in my passport for expedited renewal on Monday, May 3rd. My total payments via check for expedited service cleared on May 12. I was told that with expedited service, I would get my new passport book back within 4-6 weeks. The latest on my status said it was being printed and would arrive on or around Jun 10. It is now June 18th and I still haven't received anything. I am traveling to Mexico from July 14 thru August 5th. I am starting to get frustrated and worried.

Answer: Hi, Eric. The Department of State has recently clarified that the 4 to 6 weeks expedited period is only for processing. It does not include the time it takes for the application to arrive at the processing center and for the passport to arrive at your doorstep. They estimate for expedited service to take up to 12 weeks door to door.

Based on what you described, your passport should already be on its way to you. Giving some time for delays by the courier, it may still arrive before your scheduled departure.

You may contact the National Passport Information Center at 1-877-487-2778. Live agents are available Mondays through Fridays 8AM-10PM Eastern time.

Not available status
by: Anonymous

Question: Hello. We applied to renew a passport for a minor child on 5/10 with expedited service at a passport acceptance post office.

They give us a 4-6 weeks timeline. Today 6/18 Almost 6 weeks, the money order is not cashed, status is not changed. We were trying to call and the waiting time is 2.5 hours. I emailed and they replied to call. We have tickets for mid of July. Our old passport was taken, but it is not expiring until mid of August. The passport agency doesn't have emergency appointments and to set up we need to call and waiting is 2.5 hours.

What should we do? We have friends who applied before and after also for expedited and already received their passports!! This is unbelievable.

Answer: Based on the latest update from the Department of State, the 4 to 6 weeks timeline does not include the mailing time. Because of the high volume of mail, delivery of the passport to the processing center and to you once processing is completed may take up to 6 weeks. Expedited processing may take up to 12 weeks door to door.

The call center is also experiencing an unexpectedly huge volume of calls hence the long waiting times. They have actually extended their availability to 10PM instead of 5PM Eastern time.

Why give numbers and email addresses
by: Anonymous

Question: What are customers to do when customer service experiences long call volume and time is running out? The emails just thank you for contacting them but they too have no information. Customers are literally in quicksand.

Answer: The National Passport Information Center's call center is experiencing extremely high call volumes with longer-than-usual wait times. You can get your questions answered immediately by using one of the self-service tools available on the government's site 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. What you see online is the same information that call center representatives can share with you by phone.

Renewal Passport needs expediting
by: Anonymous

Question: I mailed my passport renewal app on April 1 in advance of my upcoming trip to Mexico on July 13. About 3 weeks later, I received an envelope containing what I thought was my new renewed passport - instead, enclosed was a letter stating that my photo was not accepted and my old passport and app were returned. I began to panic because I’d now lost almost a month of processing time.

I went to the post office to have my picture retaken and the postal clerk was also baffled as to why the photo was denied. She measured the photo etc. She took a new photo and felt that it did not need to be expedited being that it was a renewal and you all would notice the loss of time and try to get my passport to me.

I leave in under 30 days with my daughter and we are very worried. I have repeatedly tried to get a person on the phone. I am willing to pay an expedited fee but need to make sure it’s received properly to avoid more loss of time.

Answer: As of the latest update by the State Department, published processing times do not include the time it will take to mail applications to the processing center and then to the applicant's mailing address. Standard processing takes up to 12 weeks and expedited service takes up to 6. Delivery times may vary and some may be significantly delayed.

Since you are traveling in less than 4 weeks, the only place that can issue your passport on time is a regional passport agency. These agencies currently offer extremely limited appointments and prioritize those who need to travel urgently due to a qualified life-or-death emergency.

Set an Appointment

You will have to go there in person to request and pay for expedited service. Your appointment date must be no sooner than 3 business days before your departure date.

When I applied for my child’s passport I didn’t have the SSN
by: Anonymous

Question: I have three questions.

1. How long does it take to process the passport after the money order was cashed?

2. When I applied for my newborn baby I didn’t have the social security number, but I received it after a week, so I didn’t write the number when I applied. Can I still check the status online?

3. The other question is that I am going to travel very soon and I booked an appointment at the agency, do I need to bring the papers again for the appointment or it will show in the system ( the money order was cashed for this application)?

Question: 1. It takes about 6 weeks after submission for an application to be in-process. During this time, your application is delivered to a mail facility, your payment is processed, and your application is entered into the system. Processing time does not include delivery times. Standard processing may take up to 12 weeks while expedited processing takes approximately 6 weeks.

2. The applicant's SSN is required to check the status online. You will have to call the NPIC at 1-877-487-2778 to check the status since you did not have an SNN upon submission.

3. There is no need to re-submit the paperwork. There is also no need to pay the fees but if you have not paid for expedited service, you need to pay the $60 expedite fee. You need to bring proof of your imminent international travel.

No passport application status after 5 weeks of application

Question: I have applied for passport renewal through USPS priority mail and it is delivered on May 3 to the Philadelphia Processing center. Today is June 11. When I check the status, the website still says "Application Status: Not Available". I am not sure what to do. Any help or guidance greatly appreciated.

Answer: It is possible that processing of your application has begun but it just has not been entered into the tracking system yet. You may contact passport services at 1-877-487-2778. Asking to speak to a supervisor may get you better answers.

Expedited but no passport 7 weeks later?
by: Anonymous

Question: I applied for a passport on April 19th and paid extra for it to be expedited. It is now June 9th. It has been 7 weeks and the online processing system says that it is in transit to the facility still? I have an upcoming trip and do not want to have to cancel due to not having a passport. What can I do?

Answer: Please contact the NPIC at 1-877-487-2778 to find out the actual status of your application. It is possible that the application has been received and processed but the status has not been updated in the tracking system.

Passport Status Not Available
by: Anonymous

Question: Hello. I sent in my passport to be renewed (expedited) over 5 weeks ago and the status of my application still says "not found" and my check has not been cashed. What should I do? I can not get through on the phone to get a status update. Is there a form I can submit or can I reapply?

Answer: Since you cannot reach customer service over the phone, you may send an email to NPIC@state.gov instead.

If your passport does not arrive within 6 weeks of submission, you may request for a refund of the $60 expedite fee.

Where is my renewed passport
by: Anonymous

Question: My wife sent off my expedited renewal with hers on April 23 and was received on April 25. We are set to leave on June 9th and we received her passport but not mine.

We are 5 days from leaving and still showing in-process. We've called multiple times and they're saying the same thing in-process and that's it. We can't seem to get a straight answer. This vacation is our son's high school graduation present and now I'm the only one out of 5 of us who hasn't received a passport. It's been 6 weeks and nothing. Haven't even received any letters, nothing. What else can I do? Time-sensitive.

Answer: Customer service representatives only have access to the same information provided in the tracking system.

At this point, the only place that can issue your passport is a regional agency. You need to set an appoinment at a regional agency close to you.

Question: My paperwork was received May 2020 and my check was cashed over a year ago. I still have not received my passport or any communication regarding my passport. I have tried calling and have been on hold for over an hour each time. I have not been able to actually talk to someone.

Received old passport not new one
by: Joe o

Question: I received my old passport in the mail on 4/20/21. Is this protocol that I didn’t receive the new one as of yet?

Answer: New passports are sent in a different mailing from old passports and supporting documents. The new one should be on its way.

You may contact the National Passport Information Center at 1-877-487-2778 to confirm that the passport has been mailed out. Take note of the date and from which agency it was mailed.

If the passport does not arrive, you have 90 days to file Form DS-86 Statement of Non-Receipt of U.S. Passport to get one reissued.

Approved status
by: Anonymous

Question: My passport shows in approved status but not shipped. I guess still needs to be printed. How long does it take from approved status to shipped?

Answer: The Department of State has not issued any timeline on how long it takes for a passport to be shipped. Your passport should ship within the 10 to 12 weeks published processing time. If you paid for expedited service, it should be within the 4th to 6th week from submission.

What is the longest time taken and still get a passport issued?
by: Sasha

Question: It has been since early November 2020 and 20+ weeks later, no passport. In Jan I got a letter for additional paperwork because of a name change and my original court order had not had a raised seal. At what point should I assume they are rejecting it? What is the longest they possibly take and still issue a passport? I don't have a trip planned yet, but am eager to do so.

Answer: Delays are to be expected when more documents are required. You may check the status of your application here: http://uspsg.net/status/.

You may also contact the National Passport Information Center at 1-877-487-2778 to speak to an agent regarding the status of your application and when you will possibly receive your passport.

No passport for 8 month
by: Anonymous

Question: I applied for my 5-year-old child's passport on the 2nd of September. The agency received it on the 9th. The payment was taken right away. We still don't have the passport or explanation on why it takes so long to get her passport.

Answer: Applications that take very long to process usually have missing documents. Have you received any communication from passport services asking for additional documentation to support the application?

If you did not receive any, it is possible that the passport was lost in transit or upon arrival at its destination. Please contact the National Passport Information Center at 1-877-487-2778 to confirm that the passport was issued and mailed to you.

If they say it has been mailed, ask for the issue date and the agency that issued the passport. If it has been less than 90 days since issuance, you may file Form DS-86 Statement of Non-Receipt of U.S. Passport to get a new one reissued.

Passport Not Found
by: Anonymous

Question: Hello. I sent my passport renewal application over a month ago (around February 10th) and according to USPS, it has been delivered to the center. However, when I check the status online, it still says "Not Found", and when I call to try to get an update I am unable to get through. Is this normal? How can I receive an update on my passport or get a new passport? I need a returned passport before the end of May.

Answer: It takes several business days (sometimes even longer) for an application to be entered into the tracking system. It is possible that your application is already on process but has not been entered in the system yet.

Have you checked if the cheque has already been cashed? It is usually an indication that the application has been received.

Also, please check your mail for any communication from passport services. It is possible that processing is pending because you need to submit more documents.

You may contact the National Passport Information Center at 1-877-487-2778 for more information.

Question: I sent my expedited passport renewal application with my old passport (that was not expired until July) thru USPS 2-day priority mail two months ago.

Today March 20, 2021 USPS status shows "in transit" and passport agency status shows "not found".

I contacted USPS many times, opened a case, it got escalated but received no answer on where my package was. I contacted the passport agency and their answer was "wait or see" or get proof of lost application package from USPS.

So, in my case, how long do I need to wait to prove that the application is actually lost since USPS doesn't respond or provide any proof of lost package? Should I reapply as a new passport application or as a lost or stolen passport? Thank you!

Answer: You need to confirm with passport services when the passport was mailed. If it has been over 14 days since the issue date, you may file for non-receipt of your passport using Form DS-86. If submitted within 90 days, passport services will reissue a passport without cost.

Application sent certified mail
by: Anonymous

Question: My application was sent certified mail and delivered on 03/12/21. There is no signature (that was required) showing on the tracking. When I track my application, it states "not found". Did it get there or not?

Answer: It takes several business days for an application to be entered into the tracking system. We recommend trying again in a few days and calling passport services at 1-877-487-2778 if you still can't find it.

Five months and still no passport
by: J. Elsayed

Question: Mailed my passport in on October 5, 2020. Accepted by facility on Oct 15, 2020. It is now March 16, 2021 and still no passport. I called and they said it is in process and could not give any more info. They have no idea how long it may take. I cannot plan my international travel because I don't have my passport. Why so Long!!!! 10-12 weeks is a joke. How about telling people it may take a year to get your passport renewed and sent back.

Answer: While it is true that there may be some delays in standard processing, yours is too long. There may have been issues with the requirements. Have you received any communication from passport services asking for more documents? It is possible that you missed the mail and passport services is still waiting on the requirement.

I recommend that you call passport services again and ask to speak to a supervisor. A person in authority may be able to provide you with more specific information regarding your application.

Passport Picture rejected
by: Anonymous

Question: How come I had to send my passport renewal application to Pennsylvania, and after getting a letter about my picture being rejected I had to send the new picture to New Hampshire?

Answer: Applications are routed from Pennsylvania to the processing center that can best accommodate them. Yours must be in New Hampshire that's why you need to send the photos there.

minors passports
by: Anonymous

Question: My family made an appointment for our minors' passports to be done at a local post office. Everything was mailed out on Dec 28, 2020. It is now March 5, 2021 and they still have not even cashed the checks. I am extremely angry, these documents should be cared for. They have all of our children's personal information: SS#, birth certificates, and their old passports.

I have called everyone and they keep telling me things are backed up!

My husband and I renewed our passports the same day and received our new passports on Feb 7th!
Please look into this or give me a phone # that actually gives me a person that knows what they are talking about!

Answer: While it is true that a number of routine applications are taking longer than usual, your children's applications are still within the 10 to 12 weeks processing time. It is still not considered delayed even if your passports were processed more quickly.

We understand that this situation is frustrating but as a privately-run website, we cannot look into the application as you requested. Only the people working at the Department of State's passport services can.

What you can do is contact the National Passport Information Center again and this time ask to speak to a supervisor who may be able to get you better answers.

Kids passport renewal
by: Anonymous

Question: Hi there. What is the paperwork that I need to renew my son's passport? He will be 16 on April 19. Would he need fingerprints, parental consent if the other parent is not there? Passport photos?

Answer: Passports issued to minors cannot be renewed. If you wait until your son turns 16, he may then apply for an adult passport. Please prepare the following:

1. Form DS-11
2. Evidence of U.S. citizenship plus photocopy
3. Proof of identity plus photocopy
4. Signed statement of consent from one parent
5. One passport photo
6. Payment for fees

At 16, only one parent is required to provide consent and it does not have to be notarized. He needs to submit the requirements in person at a local passport office.

Question: Hi there. The national passport processing center is saying that my passport application for the passport book is approved and being copied. What does this mean? It also said that I would receive the passport by March 3rd in the mail, what does this mean?

Answer: I am not sure that you mean by copied but if they said that the passport should be in the mail by March 3rd, expect it to arrive by then.

Question: Hi. I have already responded to that letter but your department is still holding on to my passport for four months. I had not received any new update from your department about the passport application or my passport. All the person says it’s in process so I guess I won’t be getting my passport until another four months have passed.

Answer: Hello. As a privately-owned website, we at U.S. Passport Service Guide, we do not have access to information pertinent to individual information. Similarly, customer service representatives only have access to the information available to you when you check the status of your application.

I suggest that you contact passport services again and this time ask to speak to a supervisor. You may be able to get better answers by doing so.

Question: Hi there. I want to know why your department is taking more than twelve weeks to process my passport! When is my passport coming to after eight months that is really not fair. Where is my passport? Why is taking such a long time? What are you investigating?

Answer: Hello! As a private entity, we do not have access to the information you require. All we know is what is available in the Department of State's website.

As of the latest update, regular processing still takes 10 to 12 weeks. However, due to nationwide variations in staffing and temporary closures of some facilities due to COVID-19 cases, a small percentage of routine applications are taking longer than 12 weeks to process. Since you applied for routine service more than 12 weeks ago and have not received your passport yet, they may also have sent you a letter requesting additional information to continue processing your application. Please respond to this letter.

Question: Hi. It has been four months no passport. Today is like the sixteenth week no passport has been mailed back to me! I am really very very angry because each time that I call your department, the person who picks up the phone says passport application is in process so it takes six months.

Answer: We're sorry to learn about your experience. Published passport processing times are just approximations -- passports may arrive before or after the 10-12 weeks. A lot of factors can affect the processing times including local COVID situations, manpower, and volume of applications, among others.

Unfortunately, customer service representatives only have access to information that is available at http://uspsg.net/status/. Calling again and asking to speak to a supervisor may give you better answers.

Question: I applied for my passport on 01/22 and I expedited it. I'm supposed to be leaving on 02/24 and I still haven't received my passport. I also live in Maryland, why is my passport in New Hampshire and will I receive my passport before the 24th?

Answer: Expedited service takes approximately 4 to 6 weeks. This means your application should be completed between February 19 and March 5, provided that there are no delays due to volume or other factors. While it is possible that your passport will arrive before your trip, guarantees cannot be made.

Applications are routed to the processing center that can best accommodate them. This is why yours was sent to New Hampshire and it should not affect the processing time.

If your passport does not arrive by the 20th, you can set an appointment at the closest regional passport agency and followup in person. Note, however, that appointments for non-emergency (life or death) travel are extremely limited. You may need to try several times before you can secure one if any is available. Regional agencies can issue passports in 72 hours or less.

Question: The national passport processing center website says that they received my passport book application on 10/26/ and the application is in process. What does this mean? It has been more than 12 weeks, it's the fifteenth week. Could you give me an estimation as to when I may receive my passport?

Answer: Hello! U.S. Passport Service Guide (this website) is a privately-run website. As such, we do not have access to the information you require.

The published processing times are just approximations, processing may finish before or after the 12-week mark. You may contact the National Passport Information Center at 1-877-487-2778 for more information.

WHERE IS OUR PASSPORT RENEWAL?
by: SUSAN MARIE SEELEY

Question: MY HUSBAND AND I FILLED OUT THE FORMS FOR THE PASSPORT RENEWALS, WITH A CHECK OF $110 FOR EACH FORM, EQUIVALENT TO $220 ALTOGETHER. OUR BANK STATEMENT CASHED THE CHECKS A LONG TIME AGO! WE HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR ALMOST A MONTH FOR OUR NEW PASSPORTS THAT SHOULD LAST US FOR 10 YEARS LIKE BEFORE!

Answer: Hello, Susan. Routine processing takes 10 to 12 weeks to complete. If you submitted a month ago, you will have to wait another couple of months for your passports to arrive.

Passport renewal
by: Anonymous

Question: I mailed my passport somewhere in middle of October 2020. They received my passport renewal application on October 26. Now they're telling me it’s in process and it’s not completed. What were they doing with my application three months sleeping? Then they're telling me we do not know where your passport application is, we do not know where your passport is. So when do you think I might receive my passport?

Answer: Routine processing takes approximately 10 to 12 weeks to complete. It has been a little over 13 weeks since passport services received your application. Your new passport and supporting documents should be in the final stages of processing if not already on its way to you.

Having said that, you should account for delays on the USPS side. They have reported unprecedented volume of mail hence the delays.

Passport Renewal - No Tracking Update
by: Anonymous

Question: Hi,

I filled out my passport renewal application and sent it when I was in Chicago for the holidays (I believe it was sent on 12/29). USPS gave me a shipping tracking number, but it's been 3 weeks, and there hasn't been any update on whether it received the PO Box location in PA that the expedited passport renewals are supposed to be sent to.

Obviously, this is a very important document, and I paid and applied for the expedited renewal, but there have been no updates, and I don't believe it has been received.

Please let me know if you can help with the tracking, as I've already contacted USPS, but they haven't gotten back to me in a few days. Any advice is greatly appreciated as this is urgent. Also, please let me know if there is any other detail/info I can provide to help.

Thanks

Answer: It is possible that the USPS tracking system is not updated but your application may have already been received. You may check the status of your application here instead: http://uspsg.net/status/.

It takes several business days for an application to be logged into the system so if you don't find it at first, try again in a few days. You may also contact passport services at 1-877-487-2778 if you'd like to speak to a customer service representative.

What is the actual wait time?
by: Anonymous

Question: You received my application for passport renewal over 13 weeks ago, in October 2020. When I check the status, I sometimes get a response that my application is not found.

Other times the response says "in process". It keeps alternating from one to the other. Your website is clearly not working, and why do you say it takes 10-12 weeks when it doesn't?

Put the REAL wait time out there and please tell me what the real wait time is because it is certainly not 10-12 weeks!

Answer: Hi. The information published on this website is based on what is posted in the Department of State's website. U.S. Passport Service Guide (this website) is a privately-run entity and we have no access to the government's system.

Processing times are just approximations. Actual processing time depends on a lot of factors including the volume of applications and available manpower. Pandemic conditions are constantly evolving and while passport services is working very hard to meet the demand for passports, there are times that operations are hindered because of the global health concern. This is why actual wait times cannot be ascertained.

If you would like to speak to customer service representative, you may contact the National Passport Information Center at 1-877-487-2778.

Question: My passport was received in your facility on 11/24/2020 for renewal. My travel date is 1/4/2021 and to date, I have not received my passport. How do I go about this?

Answer: Routine service takes 10 to 12 weeks to complete. If you requested and paid for expedited service, the processing is 4 to 6 weeks. It has been 5 weeks and 2 days since the submission. Even if you expedited, it is unlikely that your passport will arrive before your trip.

What you can do is schedule an appointment at a nearby regional passport agency. You can then follow up on your application or upgrade to expedited service. Note, though, that regional agencies cater to a very limited number of non-emergency applications. Please bring proof of immediate international travel if you do get to secure a slot.

Passports never arrived
by: Anonymous

Question: Good afternoon. We sent in passports for my 2 kids in March. I was told there will be a long delay due to covid. I still haven't received the passports so I called the number. They said they were sent out on August 4th and we never received them. Now being told we need to reapply and pay for them again. How is it our issue that they were lost on delivery? This process seems backward. Since the government couldn't deliver back to us, I need to pay again and hope they get here this time? Please advise.

Answer: We're sorry to learn about your situation. In most cases when passports are lost in transit, applicants can file for non-receipt within 90 days of the application's completion. If filed on time, the application will be reprocessed without charge. But since it has been over 90 days, you will need to resubmit a new application, including fees.

Question: We have paid for expedited process. That 6 WEEKS date will pass TODAY. We have called the number 7 times over the past 3 days. Waited on hold for close to 8 hours. Received answers that our system is down for 2 days, it just shows in process, and we can't tell you anything.

What is the point of this line if no one can tell you anything? What is the point of expediting, if you can't hit the high end of your own window? every answer of what to do is call the number... and this number does nothing. Who can give me an answer on when it will ship? None of the 6+ people have been able to answer anything. Not even supervisors who were rude.

Where's my refund?

Answer: Hi, Scott. We're sorry to learn about your experience.

U.S. Passport Service Guide (this website) is a privately-run website. We provide information on passport issuance, the expediting process, and other travel information. If you would like to file a formal complaint, please do so at the government's site: Passport Complaints

You may request for a refund here.

November NJ Application

Question: My passport has been in processing since 11/24/20 on the status page. Paid for expedited service and overnight service. My trip is starting 12/30/20, which is 5.5 weeks from 11/24. Expedited should be 4 to 6 weeks. Few questions.
- should I be worried
- When they process do they look at your travel date and accommodate if possible?
- when you call the 877 number should they be able to tell you the ship date? I have tried 1x which took an hour and the person said 4 to 6 weeks with no other info.
- Do I have any other options if they don't come by my travel date?

THANKS.

Answer:
1. Since it's still within the processing time, there should be no cause for worry.
2. It is possible but there is no guarantee.
3. Agents can only give you the same information that's available on the status page. Asking to speak to a supervisor MAY provide you with better answers.
4. You can schedule an appointment at a regional agency for 72 hours before your trip. Bring proof of immediate international travel.

Please bear in mind that while there are published processing times, these are only estimates. The time it actually takes depends on the current conditions and conditions are constantly evolving at this time. You may contact the NPIC at 1-877-487-2778 for more information.

Passport Renewal Not Received

Question: I sent my passport renewal application on 09/10 and paid $146.25 for the passport book and for the passport card. As per the tracking, you received and cashed the money order on 09/14. To date, I still have not received my passport and your website says it isn't found. What should I do, and where are my passport card and passport book?

Where is my renewed passport?
by: NYC Man

Question: Hi. Today is Dec 06,2020.
My renewal application & old passport were received in Irving, TX on Sept 09, 2020. The check was cleared. It's been almost 12 weeks, but the status still says "In Process". Tried calling the 877 number, but no help. Also, the agent said I can pay $60 to expedite, but they can only put in a request and No Guarantee!! WHERE IS MY PASSPORT?

Why don't you publish the weekly reports stating the application received dates and passport issuing dates? This will surely minimize the number of phone calls as the public gets the latest clear picture.

Anyway, all I want to know is WHERE IS MY PASSPORT and When should I expect it?

Answer: Hello! We (U.S. Passport Service Guide) is a privately-run website and we do not have access to the Department of State's system. The only people who know the status of your application are those at the National Passport Information Center. You can call them at 1-877-487-2778. Asking to speak to a supervisor may give you better answers.

Routine service takes 10 to 12 weeks but the published processing times are just approximations. The passport may arrive between the 10th and 12th week or after the 12th week. Since it has been 12 weeks since you submitted your application, it should arrive soon. Unfortunately, though, we don't know exactly when.

Question: I sent my renewal passport application along with wife's renewal application and passports on 2/27/20 on the same USPS mail package. USPS Tracking stated that it was delivered successfully on 2/29/20. Wife received her renewed passport and check was cashed but I did not receive my renewed passport (checked the status on the website and states that they did not receive my application), check was not cashed either. All documents were submitted in the same USPS package, I do not understand how my wife gets her passport renewed but I did not get mine renewed. Where is my passport?

4-1/2 months and still no passport
by: Anonymous

Question: I have been waiting 4-1/2 months. I was told my passport is sitting at a facility that is not even in Phase 1 of re-opening. Will these eventually be sent to facilities that are open or do we just have to wait until that facility re-opens? I know standard is 6-8 weeks but currently i am at 18 weeks which is almost double the time. I have to travel out of the country for business in two weeks. Customer Service is no help!

Answer: A lot of people are in similar situations as yours, some even submitted their applications as far back as early March, right when the Department of State reduced operations. Passport services is working hard to process pending applications but they backed up hence the delays. As much as we would like you give you reassurances that your passport will be in the mail soon, there is no certainty of that happening. At this point, all we can do is wait and check the status of the application online: http://uspsg.net/status.

You may also call the NPIC at 1-877-487-2778. Ask to speak to a supervisor who may be able to give you more information.

Question: I applied for a renewal on Feb 5, 2020. The check for my application was cashed. I have not received my passport yet. Without it, I won't be able to renew my driver's' license.

Answer: Routine service takes 6 to 8 weeks to complete. If you did not request and pay for expedited service, we are still at the 7th week after you submitted your application -- still well within the published processing time. Also, delays are to be expected due to the COVID-19 pandemic as the State Department is now prioritizing applications of those who have life and death emergencies.

8 Weeks and No Passport
by: Anonymous

Question: I turned in my application Jan. 10 and it was received on Jan. 14, 2019. This week marks the 8th week since from the time my application was turned in. I called the office, but all they could tell me was that it was being processed. I've been reading online forums and usually every post stated they received their passport on the 8th week. Don't understand what the hold up is, but it's starting to get frustrating.

Answer: The 4 to 6 weeks processing time is just an approximation. It may take longer than 6 weeks for your application to be completed depending on the requirements and the volume of applications being processed. Passport lost by renewal office

Question: What do I do if the passport renewal office can't locate my package though USPS says it has been delivered where it should? Information center can't help as I am not in their system.

Answer: Unfortunately, the only information that customer service representatives can provide is whether the application is still being processed or the process is completed. Some visitors in similar situations have had positive results by submitted a complaint via the Passport Services feedback system.

If it has been more than 10 days since the passport was supposed to be sent out, you may fill out and submit Form DS-86 Statement of Non-Receipt of U.S. Passport. This application must be accompanied by a clear photocopy of the front and back of a government-issued ID containing your photograph. This should be sent to the passport agency that processed your application. Please call the National Passport Information Center for the address.

Please make sure you submit this form within 90 days of the issue date, otherwise you will have to pay the fees again to get a new one issued.
