Question: The father of my kids is in jail soon to be deported, what are my steps to get the kids their passport. May I use the documents from an incarcerated person?

Answer: Incarcerated individuals have access to notarial services. The father of your children may have the consent form from prison and you may submit it with a photocopy of his ID and the rest of the requirements for a child's passport.

Please have one form notarized for each child.

Father of my child was deported 4 years ago to honduras

Question: The father of my child was deported 4 years ago to Honduras and has since passed away. I am unable to obtain any type of proof since I don't speak with his side of the family. What steps can I take to get my child her passport?

Answer: You need to establish that you have sole legal custody of your child in order to apply for a passport. In your case, a copy of the father's death certificate should suffice. I recommend that you contact the Honduran counterpart of a vital records office or statistics office. They may be able to assist you with obtaining the document you require.

Question: The father of my son got deported in 2020. Renewing my son's passport and the only document I have is letter from ICE that he got deported. Is that enough to renew his passport? Or Do i need more legal docs? Please help

Answer: Getting deported does not strip a person of parental rights over a child. You need to contact the father for consent for the passport application. He can complete the consent form, have it notarized at a U.S. embassy or consulate and mail it to you with a photocopy of his ID.

If you do not have contact with him social media is usually a great place to find someone and initiate contact.

Minors applying for first time passport

Question: I have 3 children ages 8, 6, and 3. Their father has been deported before we could apply for a passport. Am I able to apply for a passport on my own since the father has been deported? What do I need to apply for my children's passports? This is the first time we will be applying for a passport.

Answer: The father may sign and have Form DS-3053 notarized at the closest U.S. Embassy or Consulate in his current country of residence. He must complete one for each child and provide you with three copies of the ID he presented to the notary. He can mail these to you and then you will submit these with the rest of the requirements for your children's passports.

Travel to Peru

Question: My 17-year-old daughter has a valid adult passport, and her father has been deported to Peru. We are planning to visit him next month and I am confused about whether I need his consent to travel internationally on my own with her. Can anyone help me get an answer to this?

Answer: For entry/exit from Peru, U.S. citizen minors under the age of 18, traveling alone (or with only one parent), generally do not require additional documentation if entering as a tourist for less than 183 days. However, if the stay lasts more than 183 days, then a Permiso Notarial de Viaje is required.

Father is deceased, Steps for childs passport?
by: Anonymous

Question: Hi. My children's father passed away 3 years ago. What are the steps/ forms do I (their mother) need to take to obtain passports for my children? Thank you.

Answer: We're sorry to learn about your loss.

The process to obtain your children's passports is quite straightforward. The children need to appear with you in person to each submit the following requirements:

1. Form DS-11
2. Evidence of U.S. citizenship plus photocopy (original or certified copy of U.S. birth certificate)
3. Photocopy of your ID
4. Original or a certified copy of the father's death certificate
5. One passport photo
6. Payment for fees

You need a certified copy of the father's death certificate for each application. This may cost you a considerable amount to acquire. If you are not traveling soon, we suggest you submit the applications one at a time.

The document will be returned to you once the process is completed. When it arrives, you can apply for the next child.
