I need the birth certificate sent in with the passport application as soon as possible

Question: I applied less than a week ago for my daughters first passport. I sent in the original birth certificate with the passport application.
I need to travel to Brazil in a couple of months but I still need to apply for my daughter's Brazilian passport which also requires original birth certificate.
I know the passport takes 4-6 weeks to receive which is fine but I really need the original birth certificate as soon as possible in order to apply for her Brazilian passport to get it in time for our trip.
Answer: The birth certificate cannot be returned while the application is being processed. The documents must remain with the application and will be returned to you when the process is completed.
Once the birth certificate arrives, you can appear at a Brazilian consulate and submit the application for your daughter's passport. Applications submitted in person can be expedited in two weeks.
Even if it takes 6 weeks for the American passport process to be completed, you should still be able to obtain both passports before your departure date.

I recieved my passport but need my original birth certificate sent

Question: I was told that my birth certificate was needed for my passport, I was worried about not getting it back. I would like to know where it is and need it back. It is my original document and I don't want to lose it.
Answer: Once an application is completed, your supporting documents are reviewed by the Department of State then sent back to you. Unfortunately, these are not sent through a traceable delivery method so there is no way to track where it is currently.
You may contact the NPIC at 1-877-487-2778 to confirm that your document has been sent your way.
