How can I expedite a passport the same day in Chicago?

Question: We are scheduled to leave for business for our company in 9 days. We have an appointment at the Kluczynski Federal Building in 5 days.
We have all the necessary paperwork and need to know whether they will be able to issue our passports the same day if we paid the expedited fee. We live over 2.5 hours from Chicago.
Answer: While it is possible that you will receive your passports the same day, we cannot make that guarantee. There are many variables that can affect the time it takes to process the applications.
Like all other processing centers, the Chicago Passport Agency has a limited number of same day passports that they can process each day. We cannot predict how many applicants will be applying on the same day. Also, those with departure dates prior to yours will have priority over your requests.
Finally, since we are unable to review your documents and passport photos, we cannot affirm that they will be accepted. The submission of unacceptable documents or passport photos that do not meet the standards determined by the Department of State is a major reason why applications are delayed or, even, denied.
While it is possible that you get your passports the same day and many have done so, it is important to be aware of potential issues that could cause delays. If they are not issued the same day, you may be able to pick them up the next day.
